Newly verified footage shows him hiding behind a parked car as a shooter fires under a palm tree just metres away. In a split-second move, he launches himself at the gunman from behind, wrestling for control as the rifle goes off, then forcing the attacker to the ground and making him retreat. Moments later, he carefully places the weapon on the road, hands raised to police. Officials now say many are alive tonight because of his courage.
